Introduction to
Site Analysis +
Observation Deck
In group of 2, we are to design an observation deck (with a maximum volume of 30m3) for the purpose of observing the views. It shall include other activity(s) such as meditation, relaxation, etc. in which furniture and equipment must fit and be incorporated into the design. This structure should correspond to the site that we have chosen. Adequate access, circulation and fenestration are mandatory. Besides that, we have to conduct site analysis of the physical context within the overall site within our group. We are given a site visit to Cape Rachado, Port Dickson, and collect data and record on the following using physical maps/diagrams.
For the part 1 of the project, all of us are divided into 2 big group and went for a site visit in Cape Rachado, Port Dickson. These 2 groups were distributed to two different sites. Therefore, we have to come out with two site analysis based on our observation, measurements, disscussion, reseaches on the specific site. The study included site plan (site section, site boundaries, north point, contours), existing structure (significant architectural language/feature, adjacent building/ structure building to remain/ demolish),landscape (natural features, soil condition, surface drainage, existing vegetation), climatic studies (sun path, wind direction, rain), circulation pattern (pedestrian, vehicular),views and vistas (panoramic /spot in, out, approaching), activities (category -dry/wet, zoning, noise), case studies (Grand Canyon Skywalk, Arizona + Pinohuacho observation deck, Chile)
In the part 2, we are trying to design a observation deck which located at cape rachado. Based on the analysis that we concluded, everyone needed to select a specific site to suit our own observation deck. THE LOOP is a design proposed not only for observation purpose and also the interaction between the visitors and the deck itself. It concepts is to experciences through the movement of the deck. Different coutour in different height provides different functionality and different view. It is located near the picnic area, so it is also meant for families activities, like picnic on the observation deck. It also located near the entrances, there is good accessiblity from the deck. The different of height is not too obvious, people can easily walk up, children can run freely on it, adn lying or resting at anywhere they want.
