This module’s aim is to develop management skills for the students in the ever growing subject called Project Management. Informally been practiced in many aspects of work, but began to emerge as a distinct profession in the mid- 20th century. The module introduces us to the principle, techniques and managerial issues, which form the process of project management. The area of study will focus in particular on project management in a construction context but will also make considerable reference to the activity in other fields of commercial and business activity to emphasize the broad applicability of the principle.

Project 1-

Defining & Documenting

A Project

This involves the application of the principles, issues and theories discussed thus far in the Project Management module, and their application into a simple construction project. In a group of six (6) members, your task is to design and manage a simple construction project in a way that emphasizes COST, QUALITY or TIME, with a measurable ‘success criteria’. In addition to the above components, the groups will be assessed via their performance each week in the six (6) mock client-consultant meeting (CCM) that will take place from week 2 to week 7. Each member will be required to conduct a meeting on a rotation basis.

Project 2-

Documentation of A Medium-size Project

This involves the documentation of your Studio 6 Architectural Design Project, to apply the principles learned in Project 1 to our final project. We have to document our own Design Studio Project from the point of view of a Project Manager.

Document (Written report, annotated visual images) will be in 5 main Components in total:

1. Introduction of Project (Identifying clients, stakeholders, objectives and goals).

2. Design Analysis, picking up issues of Design Suitability and Project Viability and specifically related to your design.

3. Project Procurement and Resource Planning

4. Risk Analysis, and Maintenance Strategy

5. Success Criteria, WBS, Gantt chart
