BUILDING
CONSTRUCTION 2
2016
This module introduces structures as architecture by developing an understanding of the structural systems in construction technology in a unique way in relation to historical and innovative buildings. Skeletal, solid and surface construction systems are discussed and analyzed in terms of load and forces in a general term.
Project 1-
Skeletal Construction (Temporary Bus Shelter)
Experiencing and understanding skeletal construction is important as it is one of the most widely used structures for building support. As a designer we should know how skeletal structure works. We have to create a bus shelther with the understanding of skeletal structure, the bus shelter should be constructed to accommodate 5-6 people (1:5). Max height is 600mm. Max base size is 400mm x 800mm. It should demonstrate the knowledge of skeletal frames and its joints. It must clearly define all building components such as roof, column, walls and floor. The structure should be elevated at least 50mm from the ground.
Project 2-
Understanding Forces in Building Construction
This project is for us to understand the tensile and grid shell construction methods are becoming widely used structures for building support. It provides the required load bearing resistance and aesthetics required by designers. Today, technological advancement is creating the path for innovations in building construction through exploration of materials, construction techniques and information technologies to produce more effective design approaches and features that will suit the designers’ preferences, environment needs and etc..
